Why We Fight
I've been watching HBO's "Band of Brothers" over the past 3 days with my son. It chronicles the last 2 years of the last righteous war the US ever fought. Today's wars piss on the memory of everything those soldiers--including my late grandfather who fought under Patton--fought for.
War has become an industry profiteered by companies like Blackwater or Xi (or whatever they are called now), Halliburton, Carlysle Group, Kellogg Clark Brown Dipshit whatever...they keep the American Empire at war in every arena possible: the war on trrrrr, the war on drugs, the war on people of color...
They are Democrats and they are Republicans, and they are entrenched in our economy. The government has to cut costs in every goddamned department or bureau--EXCEPT the department of defense. The Pentagon budget goes up every goddamned year. There are fewer jobs, the economy is in the toilet, people are losing their homes, and every year, we lose nearly 1000 soldiers in a vain war to establish our dominance as the world's ruling empire.
Every time I read about another soldier dying, I'm bitterly reminded that the man who campaigned as an anti-war candidate--the man who won the goddamned Nobel Peace Prize, for cryin' out loud!--since becoming president, has elevated the war in Afghanistan, kept the Iraq War going, and is considering the plan hatched by the neocons to invade Iran. McCain would have done the exact same thing.
There is no hope for this country in the Democratic Party. There is no hope for this country in the Republican party. If you are a member of either party, renounce your membership. Speak to other members of whichever party you belong that membership in those parties is counterproductive to aligning the country back to its original intent of "for, by and of the people." It is being destroyed from within.
We fight these terrible wars killing civilians against imaginary terrorists, when terrorists are not our enemy. Our enemies are the people who run this country: the Republican'ts and Democraps. They are the same people who own/run the banks and corporations that have sent our jobs overseas, laid us off, took our homes, drugged our children, poisoned us in our food, kept us ill with crap medicine, spied on us, took away our pensions, killed our soldiers, and slowly--one by one--are taking away our rights.
Watch "Why We Fight". It is posted in its entirety here on my blog. If you are able to, try and watch "Band of Brothers" too, to help put war in its proper perspective. War is hell and should never be used except as a last resort, and to take down empires, not to expand them. And to revolt against injustice when peaceful methods have resulted in no progress. And to overthrow fascism. Fascism is simply the combining of government and corporations as a ruling entity. Sound familiar?
