Russia’s Foreign Ministry has slammed NATO’s recent fatal airstrikes on Libya, calling the raids on the capital of Tripoli a violation of the UN Security Council resolutions.
“It is another major deviation from the UN Security Council’s Resolutions 1970 and 1973,” Russian Foreign Ministry’s envoy on human rights, Konstantin Dolgov, said in a statement, referring to NATO’s Tuesday night raid which killed 19 people and injured over 130.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the raids would not prevent military confrontation in the country, and that it would only lead to more violence against civilians, Xinhua reported.

“We are again urging all parties to follow the UN resolutions and the international humanitarian law to provide real protection to the civilian population of Libya from the threats associated with the conflict,” Dolgov said.
The military alliance’s officials say that the latest strikes on Libya targeted a military facility which used to launch attacks on the Libyan civilians.
Tuesday’s airstrikes were the heaviest carried in Libya in the past two months.
This attack comes as South African President Jacob Zuma is expected to visit Libya next week to discuss a possible exit strategy for embattled Muammar Gaddafi.
Libyan troops have also killed thousands of civilians since the revolution against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi began in mid-February.
